This poem is inspired by Lucas Jones’s powerful vision of raising boys to be dangerous men. While his message resonates deeply, I found it missing one essential piece: Christ. Without Him, courage and strength lack the foundation they need to endure. Boys must learn not only to stand firm and fight boldly, but to do so with hearts anchored in the Gospel—guided by grace, fueled by truth, and living for something greater than themselves.
This poem reflects what I believe is necessary: raising boys to be dangerous to the evils of this world by following the One who has already overcome it.
I will teach my boy to be a dangerous man—
Not with iron fists or a hardened plan,
But with steady hands that bear the weight
Of love that lingers, grace that waits.
To wade through waters of worry and fear,
To wrestle whispers only he can hear.
He’ll know that courage comes slow, not fast,
That the mightiest warriors outlast the past.
He’ll listen more, speak less, understand
That true power rests in the meekest hands.
I will teach my boy to be a dangerous man—
Dangerous to despair, to lurking night,
To voices claiming fate’s sealed tight.
He’ll press through pain, stand in the gap,
Seek and find light on shadowed maps.
And when burdens seem too much to bear,
He’ll trust God’s mercy meets him there.
He’ll learn that love isn’t soft, but sharp,
A force cutting through the coldest dark.
When fear draws near and nights are long,
He’ll sing steadfast, unwavering songs.
I will teach my boy to be a dangerous man—
A danger to hate, to divisive lies,
To the decay of comfort and pride.
He’ll value the times he falls apart—
For grace works in a shattered heart.
He’ll stand not for glory, but for good,
For truth that cuts, for love that should.
And when my voice fades, when my work is done,
He’ll stand with love, my fierce-hearted son.
Not for his glory, but for God’s grand plan,
A light in the darkness—
A dangerous man.
Wow!. Absolutely love this.
