Hearing God in a Fallen World

“The boy Samuel was serving GOD under Eli’s direction. This was at a time when the revelation of GOD was rarely heard or seen.”

1 Samuel 3:1 ‭ESV‬‬

Listening for God to speak is one of the most humbling things we have to do. Let me be the first to admit that I am not the most patient person when it comes to waiting on the Lord. For Samuel, we can learn how important it is to tune our ears to hear God’s voice. Chapter 3 begins by saying how rare revelation was during Samuel’s day. Samuel, a young man, was the end to this as he learned to recognize the word of God. Even though he had been engaged in various religious activities, he still needed to mentoring and guidance of Eli. This is a great model for anyone seeking to discern the Lord’s voice, to look for the council of elders. I am grateful for those who continue to speak truth into my life, making God’s voice even louder and more distinct amid the distracting chatter of our fallen world.
